The Riparian Festival is Friday, December 8th from 5:30 - 7:30.
Be on the look out starting this Wednesday, December 6th for service learning opportunity sign-ups in your classroom, the community kitchen, and other roles supporting our community.
SES Tree Recycling Benefit
Saturday and Sunday, January 6-7: SES tree recycling benefit
The annual SES Holiday/Christmas Tree Recycling Extravaganza is scheduled to take place Saturday and Sunday, January 6 and 7. All monies collected benefit the SES Go Fund, which supplements field trip out-of-pocket costs for many of our students and families. Middle schoolers can earn community service credits by working at or before the event. Go to the Tree Recycling - Student Sign Up to learn connect into various jobs on different dates for this event. We also need adult help; visit this SignUpGenius form to sign up for a job.
- Dates and times: Saturday, January 6 from 10am to 4pm and Sunday, January 7 from 10am to 4pm at SES, behind the school building on the asphalt.
- Drop off service: For a simple $5 donation, bring your tree to SES on either day. Pay by cash, check (payable to SESPTSA), or pay online via PayPal.
- Pickup service: For a $10 donation, our driver volunteers will pick up trees throughout inner NE and SE PDX. Pickup area runs from the river, east to 82nd Ave, from way NE down to way SE PDX. Visit the SES PTSA site to schedule a pickup. Or call 503-512-0864 or email SEStreerecycling@gmail.com.
- Entertainment: There will be fun activities to partake in, such as kickball, good ole' music playing, comfort food and hot beverages, along with a bonfire to keep everybody warm.

SES PEER TUTORS
What: Opportunity for qualified 7th and 8th-grade students to help middle school students with math, core, and Spanish homework. Peer tutors can earn school service hours.
Who:
Qualifications for being a peer tutor:
B or above in the subject area for tutoring
Core teacher and math teacher approval (signature)
Attend training session and sign peer tutor contract
When: 3:20-4:20 afternoons
*Students must be in the room and signed in at 3:30. They sign out when they leave.

Math Tutoring with the 1st + 2nd grade: This is a 2 day per week commitment of either helping out during Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Friday during lunch. See Shannon or Rebecca (room 108) if you want more details for this AWESOME opportunity.
Art Support with Mia
Mia is looking for a small number of students who are willing and available to consistently come help her in the art room in the morning once or twice a week. Check in with Mia if you would like to work with her for service.

8th Graders - High School Environmental Leadership Project (with Jan Zuckerman)
HELP (High School Environmental Leadership Project), youth from around the city coming together around environmental justice in their schools and communities, is currently organizing a series of free environmental justice tours for youth (high schoolers, 8th grade ok, too). The first one on Dec 2, from 10-4 PM, will focus in on air quality since it is on the same day as the last public hearing on Cleaner Air Oregon. The hearing will be a stop along the tour, which mainly follows the MAX Yellow Line.
We hope youth will gain their own understanding of environmental justice based on their own story and those they hear during the tour. We are looking for youth to attend one, then help to lead one in some way in the future (need-based stipends are available for this!). We are planning to do this tour again on February 3 and April 7th, so please save those dates!
Here is the registration link. All who register and show up will be part of a raffle for some fun prizes. It’ll be a cold day and the tour will be mostly via public transit, so we will have places where we stop to warm up, have lunch and snacks and move around. The time will fly by!
Space is limited, so please ask youth to register ASAP- come with a group of friends or on their own!
