Last year on January 21st, the women's rights march took place all over the country and world. 70,000-100,000 thousand people flooded the streets of downtown Portland, and now, nearly a year later Oregon and Washington are planning events to commemorate a year since those marches took place.
Here are some events happening this weekend for you to attend
The MeToo March & SpeakOUT is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at Pioneer Courthouse Square.
The NXT LVL X She Shreds J20 RALLY + PARTY is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20 at 12 p.m. at PICA in Northeast Portland.
The Indigenous Womxn's March: Honoring Red Fawn & Indigenous Womxn Warriors is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m.
The 8th grade Women's Rights Cohort will be meeting at the Starbucks near Pioneer Square to come together at the start of this rally. All folks are welcome to meet up and join with them in the marches!

SES Tree Recycling Benefit
Saturday and Sunday, January 6-7: SES tree recycling benefit
The annual SES Holiday/Christmas Tree Recycling Extravaganza is scheduled to take place Saturday and Sunday, January 6 and 7. All monies collected benefit the SES Go Fund, which supplements field trip out-of-pocket costs for many of our students and families. Middle schoolers can earn community service credits by working at or before the event. Go to the Tree Recycling - Student Sign Up to learn connect into various jobs on different dates for this event. We also need adult help; visit this SignUpGenius form to sign up for a job.
- Dates and times: Saturday, January 6 from 10am to 4pm and Sunday, January 7 from 10am to 4pm at SES, behind the school building on the asphalt.
- Drop off service: For a simple $5 donation, bring your tree to SES on either day. Pay by cash, check (payable to SESPTSA), or pay online via PayPal.
- Pickup service: For a $10 donation, our driver volunteers will pick up trees throughout inner NE and SE PDX. Pickup area runs from the river, east to 82nd Ave, from way NE down to way SE PDX. Visit the SES PTSA site to schedule a pickup. Or call 503-512-0864 or email SEStreerecycling@gmail.com.
- Entertainment: There will be fun activities to partake in, such as kickball, good ole' music playing, comfort food and hot beverages, along with a bonfire to keep everybody warm.

SES PEER TUTORS
What: Opportunity for qualified 7th and 8th-grade students to help middle school students with math, core, and Spanish homework. Peer tutors can earn school service hours.
Who:
Qualifications for being a peer tutor:
- B or above in the subject area for tutoring
- Core teacher and math teacher approval (signature)
- Attend training session and sign peer tutor contract
When: 3:20-4:20 afternoons
*Students must be in the room and signed in at 3:30. They sign out when they leave.
