May Service Updates + Marine Bio Updates

Marine Biology Dates + Updates:

6th Grade  – May 22-24
Hi 6th Grade Families,

We are excited for our marine biology overnight trip out to Newport, Oregon tomorrow.

We wanted to send out a last second email to emphasize some of the details for tomorrow and the trip.

There was some confusing info sent out about when to arrive at school tomorrow. Students should show up at school at the normal start time 8:45 to get checked in for our trip.

Adults should check in students and any medications at the auditorium. Once checked in students should load their gear (with their names on all gear) onto their designated bus. After they have loaded their gear onto their bus, students should use the bathroom and then settle onto their bus with their day-pack. Day-packs should include a water bottle and a packed lunch for tomorrow. Students are encouraged to bring a book and any drawing materials to help them settle in during the bus ride and during down times throughout the trip. The buses will be leaving for Newport no later than 9:15.

We will be back Thursday, May 24th by 3:15.

Things of note includes labeling all gear, packing utensils in a labeled bag for meals, bug spray/sunscreen, and no electronics including cell phones.

Thanks to all for their support of this special experience. We are looking forward to an excellent trip.

6th Grade Marine Bio Team,

Carrie, Heidi, and Michael

7th Grade – May 21-24

8th Grade – May 21-25

  • Tara will be updating and posting the groups sometime in the early evening of Sunday, May 20th.
Term 4 service requirements might sneak up on you if you aren't careful. There are only 2 weeks left in the school year once we get back from Marine Biology. What are you doing for your term 4 service hours???

Garden Service with Steph:
  • Wednesday 5/16  - Late Open 2 garden hours 8:45 start time
    •  MUST SIGN UP on clipboard outside of Steph's office in the Auditorium or email at sunnysidesustainability@gmail.com ---  only 10 spots available
    • This is the last garden service opportunity with Steph of the school year!!!

Late Start Babysitting

Where: The Maker Space or the Auditorim (check both)
When: Wednesday, May 16th, 8:30 to 10:45

If you show up on Wednesday without confirming you are volunteering, we might have to turn you away due to logistics and numbers (last time we had more middle school students than younger students and it ended up feeling like people were having to "babysit" the middle schoolers)

Make sure when you sign up, you get an email response that confirms you are babysitting. If you get no response, or you get a response saying “we have enough volunteers”, that means that you were not chosen for late start babysitting. Only come if you get a positive email response.

If you wish to sign up, email strom.alison@gmail.com

Thanks!
